Dual-Screen E-Reader: Cheaper but really more confortable?

RT @mashable Dual-Screen E-Reader: Cheaper but really more confortable? http://bit.ly/2aUhVb

Dual-Screen E-Reader Is Going to Be Awesome, Super Cheap

asus_eee_readerThere’s something about dual-screen gadgets that makes any geek warm and fuzzy inside. Take, for instance, the latest announcement from Asus: they’re planning to release an e-book reader with two distinguishing characteristics: two screens, and low price.
Adding another screen to an e-reader makes perfect sense on paper; after all, who doesn’t want to be able to read an e-book the way you read a real book, with two pages visible at all times? In practice, I’m not so sure; personally I’ve always preferred a single page view in all the applications (various comic readers, Adobe Acrobat, etc) that offered me the choice. But who cares – if you don’t like the double page view, you can just use the extra screen real estate for something else: browsing the web, tweeting, updating your blog; the possibilities are endless.
Asus’ e-reader, which will also fall under the company’s successful Eee line of products, will probably cost around £100 ($163), which would make it one of the cheapest such devices on the market. However, it’s possible that we’ll see several versions (just try to count all the versions of the Eee netbook, and you’ll get the general idea about Asus’ strategy when it comes to these things), with the more expensive version of the device adding support for 3G and more storage.
With the e-book wars heating up, we’re really excited to see a device that innovates in this space while keeping a reasonable price; according to Engadget, we could see one on the market soon, before the year’s end.

A cookie cutter answer by a hits whore who haven't even read the article. Good job, Adeel.
  • That's a cool comment. I am sure that cookie cutter will be upset if he sees your comment. LOL
  • meh. don't see the need for two screens.
  • Certainly this will give the feeling of paper books. But I think holding them together will be a bit difficult or uneasy.

    What do you think ?
  • This is going to heat up ebook reader market and it has got everything which can make it a kindle (which is priced at $299) killer. This is going keep Amazon on its toes. Gear up Amazon. Its tough time ahead...
  • if it's touchscreen (which it is) the dual screens are pretty pointless. but i guess dual screens are the "what's in" this year... touchscreens are so 2008.
  • Good that it's cheaper. But I don't think it will be more confortable.
  • that would b great, surely i ll want to have one.. :)
  • E-Ink or LCD? It looks really promising, especially the price tag. I think color e-ink screens are about ready to conquer the market. Go go Asus :)

This looks to be a typical bull**** from asus. No mention of whether eink is used. I suspect this is just an LCD screen in tablet mode - which is completely pointless and not an ereader at all. Full colour eink tech is in infancy and I doubt Asus has cracked that code to make it available for under $200.

Resumen:

A finales de 2009 se espera que salga al mercado el nuevo e-reader de Asus con pantalla doble por unos 100 €. A lo mejor resulta útil para leer periódicos y para lectura diagonal. No tiene pantalla con tinta electrónica.
